We frequently get asked what is the ideal screen size for a video brochure or video mailer. To answer it, while there are several factors to consider, the answer is often fairly simple.
Ideal Screen Size For a Video Brochure or Mailer
Screen sizes for video brochures and video mailers come in a variety of sizes, ranging from 2.4 inches to 10.1 inches. There are also various screen resolutions. To see the variety, click this link: Video Brochure Templates
When trying to determine which screen size is ideal in a video marketing piece, the target audience is the most important factor. If the target audience is made up of people who have a hard time reading small font, then a bigger size will be best. If they’re likely to think a large video marketing piece is too gaudy, then a small or medium sized option would be best. At the same time, if the target audience consists of people who might think a small unit is a sign of mediocrity, then a bigger size should work best. By now, you probably get the point. Whatever is going to make the most positive impression on the target audience without being too big or too small is best. Objectively, knowing the mindset of the target audience should make choosing a screen size fairly easy.
Next, it is best to choose a screen size that will look good aesthetically with the size of the overall video marketing piece. The 4″ HD screen is considered to be the preferred choice because it provides excellent image quality while also keeping the price down. Also, most viewers feel completely satisfied with it. The next most popular screen sizes are the 7″ HD followed by the 5″ HD.
Another consideration when trying to determine the ideal screen size for a video brochure or video mailer is to know the number of pixels in the video that will be used. Pixels directly impact image quality, and the bigger the screen, the more pixels are necessary to fill it. If the pixels are too low, the image quality will be low. On the other hand, if the pixels are low and a smaller screen size is used, the image quality might be perfectly fine. It should also be pointed out that videos can be made originally with high pixel counts and then the files can be shrunk, thus lowering the number of pixels, if they need to be made smaller to fit into a smaller memory capacity. As long as the pixel count works well with the screen size, the image quality should be high.
Feedback Indicates Screen Size Does Not Affect ROI
Video brochures have been popular for about five years now. So far, out of all of the customers we’ve had and all of the split testing that has been done throughout the industry, nobody has been able to determine how much screen size affects ROI.
So, with that in mind, determining an ideal screen size for a particular unit truthfully is based on the variables explained in the previous section:
- Target audience
- Look and feel of the entire piece
- Number of pixels in the video
Again, as surprising as it might be, we have yet to come across any data that indicates screen size helps or hurts ROI in video brochures or video mailers.

Having owned an advertising magazine in Utah, I’ve worked in marketing for over twenty years.
I started writing for MediaFast in 2014. The first time I held one of their video brochures, I thought something like, “Wow! This blows away our magazine and any other print advertising I’ve ever seen. This is like a TV commercial, and I’m holding it in my hands. Amazing!”
Since then, video brochures, video mailers and video boxes have become leaders in marketing performance. It’s a privilege to write about them. I also love MediaFast—with its top-notch product quality, industry leading customer service, and all of the wonderful people I get to work with.
