The difference between quality and the cheapest video marketing products is not always significant. However, the difference in customer satisfaction can be huge.
Examining the cost difference between quality and cheapest
For most people, how much money they spend is always a consideration whether they have a lot of it or not. For example, I know a rich doctor who refuses to buy brand new cars even though his family and friends often try to get him to. He can easily afford them, but he understands how much value cars lose during their first two years of existence and wants to buy them for less. So, he prefers to buy cars that are at least two years old as long as they are in good condition.
With that said, I also know people who believe they always have to buy the cheapest of everything because they don’t have very much money. Spending what little they have makes them feel uncomfortable, and sadly, they’re afraid to risk spending even 1% more to have something a little better for fear of being completely broke. However, if they would spend a little more on some things, like clothes for example, they might spend less over time because their stuff would last longer. Again, they’re just too afraid to risk it and find out.
Often, the cheapest products are made with lower quality components, thus causing them to breakdown quickly or not work as well. This is why phrases were coined like “You get what you pay for” or “Buy it right or buy it twice”. What’s interesting is in most cases, the difference in quality between the cheapest and only one or two levels above it only costs between 1% and 10% more. To put this in perspective, for a $50 dollar purchase, we’re only talking about $5 or less. Plus, user satisfaction can skyrocket with products slightly above the cheapest.
Now, let’s look at this concept from the opposite perspective. Some people believe if they purchase products that are priced higher, they’ll get the best quality. For example, I’ve found this to be true with ice cream and many other food products. The cheaper brands simply don’t taste as good (although there are many lower priced options that taste plenty good and sometimes even better than higher priced options). However, this might not be true with jeans. For example, Lee and Wrangler jeans cost almost half as much as Levi’s in most stores. Does that mean Levi’s are twice as good? Well, to answer that, Levi’s are regarded as cool with a great fit (having so many styles enables them to fit well on so many people). However, Lee and Wrangler jeans also look good and are just as durable. The point is, sometimes a higher price for some items is a result of a particular brand name and not an indication of higher quality.
To bring this concept full circle, a high price indicates either bad value or good quality and a low price indicates either good value or poor quality according to the Journal of Consumer Research. Without knowing better, consumers often use price as a way to determine value because they reason more expensive products offer higher quality. Sometimes that’s true, but sometimes it isn’t.

Having owned an advertising magazine in Utah, I’ve worked in marketing for over twenty years.
I started writing for MediaFast in 2014. The first time I held one of their video brochures, I thought something like, “Wow! This blows away our magazine and any other print advertising I’ve ever seen. This is like a TV commercial, and I’m holding it in my hands. Amazing!”
Since then, video brochures, video mailers and video boxes have become leaders in marketing performance. It’s a privilege to write about them. I also love MediaFast—with its top-notch product quality, industry leading customer service, and all of the wonderful people I get to work with.
